Emergency Water Board

the Emergency Water board sitting at the High Court

Water Campaigners set up an Emergency Board meeting outside the Royal Courts of Justice on Tuesday 11 March.  Thanks to all the Boycottthameswater followers  who were there helping to make this event a huge success!

While the court inside was considering whether the 3billion bailout loan should be approved for Thames Water, campaigners were making the point that further loans would NOT fix the terrible environmental damage that Thames Water has been responsible for and nor would it end the outrageous financial exploitation of water users.

Instead campaigners showed through the Emergency Board that the only solution to the water crisis across the country was to bring water back into public ownership.  Tuesday’s board was made up of community representatives and environmental groups, union leaders, councillors, MPs and the Green peer Baroness Jenny Jones to demonstrate who should be making vital decisions about water rather than the profit predators at Thames whose only concern is how much more they can extract from customers before the company folds completely.

Cat Hobbs, one of the key organisers of the event summed up the sorry tale brilliantly in this address to the crowd.

Now, more than ever, is the time for Thames customers to cancel their direct debits and delay payments to help keep the pressure on Steve Reed and his mates in the money-go-round game that is ruining our environment and emptying our pockets.  People will not stand for 35% (59% if Thames get their way) bill increases while our rivers and seas are relentlessly polluted and our clean water supply can no longer be relied on.
