Boycotters’ Demands

On 1/9/2025 we held a zoom meeting with Public Ownership campaigners ‘We Own It’ to learn more about how the failure of the private water system in England (90% of the rest of the world has a publicly controlled water system) affects the 16million Thames Water customers. Below please see our up-dated demands and 3 short videos sharing the valuable information presented at the meeting by Sophie Conquest, lead campaigner on water at We Own It.

We will withhold full payment on water bills until:

1. The provision of Water and waste services is environmentally sound and fairly financed via a PUBLIC OWNERSHIP model

2. fair compensation for disallowed charges such as excess shareholder pay-outs, the cost of fines and the cost of legal advice on regulatory compliance is agreed and reaches customers’ pockets

Another demand could be for the return of all customer’s money (bills) used to pay fines. Thames will tell you that shareholders pay the fines. They may do in the short term, but over longer periods, the only financial input to Thames is bill payments, so, ultimately, that must be being used for fines.

  2. Item 3 is the key target objective in my view and I’m in dispute with TW following your advice and form letter model. My concern is not so much with these demand targets as they are all good . We as a collective group in some way(s) should be contacting /involving all TW private customers to try to get as much customer support for these actions and results as possible using all possible means of communication to those TW customers like us TV ,Radio , Social media , Local Area leaflet drops . There are millions of them unaware of the power they have to take action . Yes we wont get them all but we need to galvanise those with similar views into a single force to take action and force change. Yes it will cost but we may get more bang for our buck if we try it
