Give Us Permanent Public Ownership NOW
Good news! a firm of consultants has just been appointed to advise on plans for Thames Water to be put into special administration (SAR). It’s about time – sewage dumping went up by 60% this year, bills up 40% and Thames Water is still leaking 570million litres a day from broken pipes while claiming they won’t have the money to fix them if they have to cough up the +-£1billion due in fines for their failures
Bad news! Our Environment Secretary Steve Reed (pictured above) still thinks he can clean up the pollution profiteers’ mess and then hand the U.K’s biggest failing water company straight back to the private sector for more profiteering and more pollution. He still hasn’t accepted that private water will not work in spite of all the evidence of a doom loop in the water sector.
Fortunately, water campaigners are keeping up the pressure to free us from that doom loop.

Environmental charity River Action is taking legal action against Steve Reed for failing to have a plan to deal with serious water failures.

The People’s Commission on the Water Sector – led by four independent UK academics have proven that taking Thames back into public ownership could cost taxpayers close to zero and free up billions to invest in water infrastructure.

Windrush Against Sewage Pollution has shown how acting on the Independent Water Commission’s recent flawed report would protect investors rather than customers. Their searing conclusion:
“privatisation is a guaranteed expensive failure for everyone but the shareholders and senior management and, if we cannot break its stranglehold we will be forever blighted, not only as the dirty man of Europe but also the stupid one”
We have to get this government to recognise that only permanent re-nationalisation can solve the water crisis.
Right now a new set of pollution profiteers is circling Thames Water waiting to get their hands on our water assets. Our Environment Secretary looks set to hand it over on a plate but
We cannot let this happen

We Own It are calling for MPs to pledge for permanent public ownership of water. Contact your MP about the pledge

Agreed. Government’s failure to act in the face of this crisis is appalling.
