Protest for Public Ownership! Mon 9 December

Supporters of Boycott Thames Water will be joining the many who have registered to join the action organised by We Own it on Monday 9 December. Over 5000 have invited their MP to join a briefing session. Local BBC TV crews have also signed up to be there.

The action will take place outside the Environment Ministry (2 Marsham Street). Nearest Tube Westminster, District and Jubilee Line.
Thames Water wants to add £250 to our bills to dodge bankruptcy. But it’s not a done deal. Thames Water needs Court approval on the plans. That gives TWO WEEKS to ask Environment Minister Steve Reed to stop it. We say, let Thames go bust, and bring it into public hands.
Thames creditors have taken over its day-to-day business and are forcing through a restructuring deal that will cost £3.8 BILLION over 2.5 years. Divided up across households that’s over £250 a year on each bill. This financial crisis was caused by shareholders and creditors out to get rich quick off privatisation — it isn’t YOUR fault. YOU shouldn’t have to pay. December 17th, Thames takes its plans for a first hearing at the High Court. Can you try and stop it from getting that far? If enough of us turn up outside Steve Reed’s office, the pressure for him to ACT will begin to grow. After your upcoming action on Monday 9th, UNISON, a union representing water workers, is launching a report backing public ownership in Parliament. If you can’t join the action in person, can you ask your MP to join We Own It at the Unison briefing?
Right now, not enough MPs or members of the public know Thames Water bill payers are about to be forced to bailout privatisation. We have the power to change that. The action on Monday is going to be eye-catching. Together, we can get journalists’ attention and build public anger to stop the bailout. If enough MPs attend UNISON’s briefing, support can be built in Parliament to block the bailout.
